This is a fun simple project for families to do together. Here’s an example of an easy way to decorate a  candle holder.
It was made by rolling sculpey clay and cutting the heart shapes with cookie cutters. Just bake for 30 minutes at 250 F after placing them into position on a glass holder. It’s [...]

Bayberry Candles

August 29, 2008 | 1 Comment

There’s some interesting information on bayberry candles at Relaxation at Home’s website. For instance did you know it takes 15 pounds of bayberries to make 1 pound of wax? No wonder it’s so expensive. They’re perfect for dipped tapers, burn well and have a low melting point.
If you want to try making some hand dipped [...]

Beeswax sheets are perfect for cutting out shapes to decorate your candles. Today I used a heart shaped cookie cutter to add to a beeswax pillar I had made.
To make the pillar I simply cut a purple beeswax sheet in half lengthwise and wrapped it tightly around a #1 cotton wick.
Then I wrapped the second [...]

There are some interesting candle holders at GenericGifts.com. If you’re a a bird lover there are a pretty pair of bird tealight candle holders.
I particularly like the cardinal. We used to see them all the time at our bird feeder. This is also something you could have fun with shaping with clay.
There are pretty palm [...]

If you love beeswax candles, check out SantaFe for good quality affordable candles. Their website is also extremely well laid out and informative.

There’s also some interesting information on bees and the benefits of beeswax to our [...]

They’re made from soy wax with cotton wicks and have three different stages. You just take off one level and the lid fits right back on to start fresh again. [...]

The kit makes six differrent sundaes and includes the dishes, embeds, toppings, ice cream scoops and wick. Other novelty gel candle kits include beer mugs, margaritas and banana splits.
If you don’t want to make those, [...]

Steven Montes the artist contacted me to let us know about his original artistic candle holders made out of tin food cans.
I previously posted about punching holes into a tin can with a hammer and nail but that looks primitive compared to Steven’s gorgeous tin can candle holders.
If you want to check out more one [...]

We just got home from camping and I couldn’t get online anywhere. It was fun but it’s good to be back.
We made some fire starter candles from dryer lint and wax. This is a great way to recycle egg cartons and dryer lint and it’s more effective than newspaper alone since it doesn’t burn out [...]

Manly Man candles have some new scents out now, which I found out about through their blog Manly Man Candle Company Presents: Manly Thoughts. Here are the newest additions so far. Sports Injury, Dad’s gum, Manilla and Bob’s Eucalyptus.
