Candle Winners & Singing Soy Praises

I decided to pick two winners in the raspberry soy candle giveaway since there were so many comments and I wanted to give everyone better odds. Congrats to the 27th & 50th commenter Stacy and Tami!

I’m working my way through your websites and having a blast discovering all the amazing crafting and family blogs out there. Thanks so much for participating and for giving me the opportunity to discover you!

Since I’m so candle crazy and I can’t just give them all away, I have decided to open an online store to sell my handmade soy candles. It will simply be called Sandra’s Soy Candles and I will let you know when it’s up and ready.

If you haven’t guessed I’m sold on soy and love it so sure you will too. Soy burns longer, is biodegradable, water soluble (less messy!), little to no soot and petroleum free. It’s going to be a lot of fun and I will also sell some candle holders I create out of recycled items.

Scented Soy Votive Candles Giveaway

The Bloggy Giveaways are giving me an excuse to share my candles with you. Today I made some raspberry scented votive candles with a soy blend wax.

I will be giving away four candles and all you have to do is comment but make sure you leave a real email address so I can contact you if you win. You don’t need to leave it in the actual post for all the world to see but put it where it prompts you before you post. The contest ends on Friday the 25th and I will notify the winner on the 26th.
I found this soy wax blend for votives at Village Craft and Candle and it is so easy to clean up! Other benefits are you don’t need a second pour, there’s less soot and it burns longer.

Next round I will be making some sinful soy chocolate ones so if you don’t win this time, give it another shot at the next giveaway.

Candle Artisan Retreat in Canada

If anyone is around St.Marys, Ontario in Canada, Village Craft and Candle is hosting a candle retreat that features classes, workshops, shows and events.

Some of the classes include Candle Fundamentals, Mold Making, Eco-Friendly Beeswax, Fruit Cocktail Candle, Dipped Tapers and more.

I’m not too far so I’m going to hit at least one of them and try to talk my mom into coming too. If you’re going, let me know so I can say hi. The 5th Annual Candle Artisan Retreat will be running from May 23-25 and you can bring candles to sell at the flea market on Saturday if you want.

If you can’t make it there Village Craft and Candle’s website is full of candle products and free projects. Shown here is their candle of the month, a yellow spring flower that is tulip scented.

National Candle Association Upcoming Trade Show

The 2008 Annual meeting and trade show will be held April 14-18 at Radisson Ft. McDowell Resort and Casino in Scottsdale Ariz.

Upcoming Candle Company Shows

Artwax offers many detailed fruit and vegetable candles but their scented chocolate dipped candles are my favorite. They also have great apple, pear, eggplant and pepper candles. The apple candles look very realistic and would make a great gift for a teacher. Artwax also has handmade bakery candles, floating flowers, wedding favors and candle holders.

Racoon River Candle Company creates their candles with natural soy wax, scents and dyes. They also have a line of bath and body products made with goats milk, shea butter and other natural ingredients. Buy U Candles are highly scented, hand poured and last for hours. Their shop is located between Welsh and Lacassine, Louisiana. Buy U Candles and gift baskets are very reasonably priced and triple scented. They also have an online store showcasing their products. Buy U Candles just had an event at the Gator Guns and Knives Show but will be appearing again at the Civic CenterÂ in Patterson, Louisiana from August 4-5. World Candle Congress and Trade Show

ALAFAVE (AsociaciÃ³n Latinoamericana de Fabricantes de Velas) and NCA (National Candle Association) are gearing up for their second world candle congress in CancÃºn, Mexico, June 25-29, 2007. It’s a great opportunity to see what’s new in the candle world, gain new knowledge, business and network. There will be plenty of trade shows, buyers, suppliers and speakers attending.

The National Candle Association represents US suppliers and is widely recognized as the leading technical authority on candles and candle manufacturing. Shown here is a picture of a wedding basket, courtesy of NCA. Nearly three quarters of women surveyed from NCA stated that candles were present as a key element of their ceremony.

Membership in the NCA gives suppliers and manufacturers the opportunity to learn about new products and services. 90% of candle companies in the US are members of NCA and adhere to strict ASTM candle standards. They publish a directory of their members annually and include background information, plant locations, descriptions of products offered, and contact information. If you don’t want to spring for the printed directory, it appears most of the manufacturers and suppliers are listed on the NCA site.

I enjoyed reading their facts and figures on candles. According to their stats, US sales of candles are estimated at 2 billion annually and over 95% of the purchasers are women.
