Striped candles aren’t that hard to make but they’re time consuming. You have to wait for the wax to harden in between layers. I didn’t wait long enough the first time so found that out the hard way.

What a great idea for a clean burning candle!

They’re made from soy wax with cotton wicks and have three different stages. You just take off one level and the lid fits right back on to start fresh again. You get a brighter flame with more oxygen because the candle isn’t sinking inside the container.

If you want to check out more one of a kind pieces of art made out of trash, see Steven Montes Yessy art gallery. According to the site, artists began making tin luminaries during the 1400’s in Spain. They have continued the tradition of creating tin can lanterns but now recycle them from food cans.

If you were wondering how the cuts are made, they now use a small gas torch. Shown here is a tin can vegetable luminaria. I bet the patterns that flicker from the light of the lit candle are beautiful.

Maybe he’ll come by with new names but in the meantime, does anyone have more ideas for manly smelling candles? How about ballgame hotdogs, old spice or roast beef?
