13-year-old Hart Main from Ohio started his Man Cans candle business after deciding his sister’s candles smelled too girlie.
He uses recycled soup cans for containers, makes his own labels and his mom helps him with the hot wax.
Some of the candle scents include: fresh cut grass, new mitt, campfire, buttered popcorn, bacon, coffee and hot cocoa. Here’s a video of an interview with Hart Main about his Man Cans.

I really have to admire this kid’s moxy! Great design, great scent ideas, I know a million guys who would love these!
How do I get some of these here in Mo? I love freshed mowed grass, and sawdust
There have been scents out there like these for years, just not in candles so much. Even the old 1971 movie Harold and Maude has something like that except it was an Aroma machine that Maude created called an Aroma machine, which was a converted really old record player. Scents like ‘snow’, ‘dirt’, ‘pot roast’, etc. There have lots of essential oils back in the 80′s that had unusual scents (chocolate chip cookies, dirt, mowed grass, smores, camp fire, puppy breath, leather, etc.) Everyone is gushing thinking this kid’s idea is so unique but it’s not really. He was just lucky enough to be born in the right time/era and have a mom to help him. Because of the internet and all the technology the word has spread instantly all over the place. Hope he saves his money for his future. He should invest in fall-out shelters and build his family nice big fall-out shelter…(nuclear plants blowing up the world) Wow, this comment went to left field fast didn’t it?
You have a point Rudrani. When children are involved, they seem to get a lot more publicity. I still admire his spunk and think it should keep him out of trouble.
Good grief, give the kid a break at least he is not making and selling meth.
Say it Marisa.
He/his mom needs a like on facebook page.. It will help it go farther as well.. I think it is great to see someone so young have such ambition and support.. I just hope he can find the time he said he don’t have much for and that is still being a kid.. It is sooo important!! Congrats buddy for a job well done..
I see they had it after my post.. Sorry and still great job.. I clicked like and hope alot of friends do as well and will order from him…
great job kid.!!!!!! i saw you on the news. and i think you are a great kid…..savannah ga
Thanks for the heads up Laura!
Way to go I saw you on the news. I love when kids do things creative with their minds. Really anyone. At least you’re not out there committing crime giving into the weakness of the flesh. I live in Ohio I might want to check your candles out. Stay in school keep your grades up and your candle business will be do fine. Great mom (family) for helping.
Its great to see young people get involved in something positive. The fact that he has a support group to help him or a good mom is an after thought. He had an idea and made made something of it. Too bad more kids dont have that kind of drive, adults too for that matter. Keep up the good work and take my orders.
This kid is BRILLIANT!! What a cool idea and unique concept. Good for him!! Wish I had thought of it!!
Ok first someone “Rudrani” needs to take a chill pill and see the good for what it is. Some of the greatest inventors, took something that was already done and tweeked it to make it better – thats what happens on a daily basis in business. This kid is off to a great start. Keep up the good work. The whole concept is Phenomenal – the soup cans, feeding people the soup. Back to Rugrat or whatever their name is Im not gonna comment on the crazy nuclear comment – Is that really necessary here???? again back to Heart (the candle kid) GREAT JOB!!!!!
Great idea! I love your idea. Proud to see a teen interested in something besides himself. How about Fresh Cut Hay scent. That is what we have here in Tennessee in the Summer.
This idea is actually stolen and has been going on for a few years now. How does he know how to make the scents with the candles?
Awsom!!!!!!
how excatly do you order them?i seen people post to email him but i dont have his email.
I just heard about this on the “doctors”. I am so impressed!! I have a 14yr old n its so amazing the way there brains work!! I think its so cool as to all the people this invention is helping. The soup from the cans gets served to those that nees a meal. Also to sponcer your own little league team, WOW!!!! WAY TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw your piece on the Doctors. I went to your web site to order and I got an error message. Do you have the exact web address?
Good luck.

Dear Hart, on August 25,2011 I sent you an order for 1 cut grass candle and 1 campfire candle. On August 29,2011 PAYPAL MAN CANS charged $30.84 on my charge card for these 2 candles. I thought that was outrageous for 2 $9.50each candles. In addition, I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED THEM!! I really need these before Thanksgiving and have been patiently waiting. Please call me and let me know when I will receive them.
Please visit Hart’s website link that’s provided in the article.
